In August & September Gembuild designed and built a new timber-framed classroom building in the grounds of a school in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. This was an excellent solution for the school as it provided the much-needed additional teaching space as well as being far cheaper than traditional bricks and mortar. It was also built in a fraction of the time that would have been required for a brick-built outbuilding.
Gembuild is one of only a handful of UK ‘garden office’ companies whose buildings have high enough specifications and comfort levels for possible use as a classroom. (Gembuild have long been associated with much larger timber-framed buildings on scales large enough to be used as multi-floored homes and offices, all whilst still meeting the tight building regulations and very high insulation specifications currently required for such daily usage).
The photos show both exterior shots and interiors with high quality double-glazing, carpeted floor tiles, wooden skirting, recessed lighting, power points wherever they were required and even significant external lighting for those darker autumn and winter evenings. You can see the high quality of the external finish with beautiful wooden cladding and a lovely slate shingle finish to the roof. This outbuilding will last for years and, like all Gembuild timber-framed buildings, is fully insulated from floor to ceiling using a very high specification. Classrooms are yet another example of how adaptable and comfortable Gembuild timber-framed homes, garden studios, offices and outbuildings can be!
